My full name is May Jony Arriaga Chavez. I was born in a small village on the right bank of the Napo River, approximately 2 days north of Iquitos by boat. About 8 years ago I started work as a tourist guide for tour operator in Iquitos. This gave me the opportunity to show my skill as a guide in the jungle. Since then I have worked for a number of other tour operators, always continuing to improve myself, not only as a guide, but also as a human being.
As well as being a bi-lingual guide, I am a naturalist and my passion is the jungle. I want to awaken a similar enthusiasm in others who seek a unique experience in this delicate and extremely beautiful paradise. The most important driver in my life is my commitment to conserving the Amazon and improving the lives of its people. To rehabilitate some of the areas where the rainforest has been destroyed I organise reforestation programs around the villages which we visit. This is achieved with the assistance and enthusiasm of visitors like you. Some of the proceeds from tours also go towards helping jungle people with basic medical supplies and education.
A project I am developing is an education program to help young jungle people who want to keep studying after they finish primary or high school. In order to continue their education they must move to the city, often far from their home villages. Many lack the money or support to live in a city on their own whilst studying. This project aims to provide support to these children either through study assistance, financial support, or accommodation placement.
So you see, your travels will not only benefit you, but the proceeds will come as a breath of fresh air to others as well. So let’s save the last lung of the word THE AMAZON RAINFOREST!
